The Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center Cancer Program has been approved by the Commission on Cancer for excellence in cancer care since 1956 a designation awarded to only about one quarter of all cancer care hospitals nationwide. We also rank among the top third of 51 licensed cancer programs in New Jersey.

With over 60 years of experience, compassion and commitment to care, Mountainside Medical Center’s Cancer program provides: a collaborative case review with a multidisciplinary team, sophisticated diagnostic resources, comprehensive care by distinguished specialists, counseling and psychosocial services, infusion services, radiation oncology, genetic counseling, access to promising treatments and clinical trials, palliative support, rehabilitation services, nutrition services and pastoral care support.

We have established an affiliate agreement with John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, one of only 16 cancer center consortia in the U.S. approved by the National Cancer Institute, a partnership that will enhance care in North Jersey.

This partnership ensures the same level of quality patients have come to expect at John Theurer Cancer Center.  With this agreement, patients will have access to all clinical trials conducted by John Theurer Cancer Center. 

In addition to establishing a partnership with the state’s largest, most prestigious cancer center, Mountainside Medical Center recently acquired cutting edge Truebeam® technology that benefits patients who require radiation therapy with fewer, shorter treatment visits and less risk of side effect

What You’ll Do

The Associate Vice President, Oncology Services directs and oversees a wide range of administrative, fiscal, strategic, quality, service expansion, marketing, and technical activities to assure operation of cancer related services meet the strategic objectives.  This position is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the delivery of patient care, overall project management, strategic planning, performance improvement, cancer center reputation, and achievement of year end goals.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Provide extraordinary compassionate care to all we care for and absolute teamwork with our colleagues
  • Ensure the smooth and safe operations of the oncology service line including: Infusion Center Operations, Radiation Oncology Services, Palliative Care, Nurse Navigation, and Social Work
  • Improve service quality by practicing safe medicine, meeting evidence based guidelines, and expansion of comprehensive services to maintain leading reputation
  • Work in partnership with physician leadership to develop oncologic evidenced based pathways for delivery of health care that are both appropriate care for best costs
  • Increase case volumes, revenues, expense management, and contribution margin
  • Work collaboratively with medical center to support the affiliation strategies of other hospitals and physician groups
  • Expand our research services that actions lead to increasing accrual of patients into clinical trials 
  • Represent the Cancer Center as an ambassador to the community through partnerships and public service
  • Develop a culture of constantly improving team member satisfaction and low staff turnover
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in budget-related decisions and successfully meets or exceeds budget performance targets
  • Oversee and negotiate the acquisition of equipment, repair service and supplies, operating within the budgetary framework and approval processes coordinating with the Departments of Materials Management and Finance
  • Council, guide, and mentor staff, ensuring that all achieve fullest potential and that the work product meets the standards for quality, accuracy, and timeliness
  • In collaboration with the Performance Improvement team, assists in establishing and maintains an overall quality management program for The Cancer Center to assure the safe delivery of disease-specific patient care. Includes working closely with the radiation safety officer to maintain radiation safety standards in compliance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant agency requirements, including Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), The Joint Commission (TJC), Accountable Care Organizations (ACoS), New Jersey Department of Health (NJSDOH), and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJSDEP)
  • Gain new and maintains adherence to diseases specific certification and overall cancer program accreditation
  • Develop and maintains policies and procedures for The Cancer Center Departments
  • Maintain and coordinate the continuity of care for patients
  • Assure all departmental research activities are instituted and conducted with the approval of the Chairman of the Institute of Biomedical Research and assures staff compliance as governed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and NATO Communications and Information (NCI)
  • Facilitate clinical research in collaboration with other components of The Cancer Center; supports investigators and staff in developing grant applications, regulations and policies; enforces such procedures to assure compliance with funding agencies and Medical Center policy
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned


What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s of Nursing degree required as well as successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Minimum 5 years management experience overseeing multiple cost centers
  • Minimum of 10 years oncology experience
  • Leadership of multiple modalities of cancer services
  • Graduate of a clinical service associated with oncology (i.e., RN, Pharm, RT(T)
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to work under pressure and effectively address complaints
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a busy environment and maintain focus on customer service is essential
  • Ability to be flexible and to adjust to changing priorities as needed
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with proven track record of building and coaching successful teams
